Some puppies are born naturally perfect, but most of them will need some guidance. Apply this advice to ensure that your puppy is well-behaved and happy.

Remember, each action you perform around your puppy affects who he is. You might be reinforcing bad behaviors without even realizing it, for instance by playing with your puppy or by acknowledging its barking. Mold your puppy into the pet you want by constantly working towards the behavior you desire.

Working on your puppy's recall is essential. Your canine friend needs to know to come back to you when you call out, regardless of what has their attention around them.
As you train your puppy, you must have the entire family play a role to achieve consistency. It is important that everyone in your household is consistent with training cues. Consistency is imperative in puppy training. Since puppies have historically been pack animals, leadership is something that they need and crave.

Certainly, some pets are natural alphas, but it is even possible to subjugate them. By showing a puppy that you are his master, he will feel secure and will obey.
As you encounter unfamiliar puppies, make certain to advance with care and let the puppy smell your hand. He'll learn your scent and begin to have trust.

The space you share with your pet should be calm and relaxed. Play time is great, but your puppy needs to learn to stay calm as his master enters the room. You can retain control over the environment by allowing a few moments before acknowledging your pet. You are behind the decisions to play or interact. Use positive reinforcement when training your puppy.

Punishing your puppy whenever he or she does something wrong is not always necessary. Instead, just ensure you aren't reinforcing bad behavior. Being negative may cause the puppy to become afraid. Your puppy will be more likely to behave if he knows he will be rewarded.

Just like humans, puppys all respond in their own ways to various training methodologies. An obedient puppy will learn well thanks to positive reinforcement, but a more stubborn puppy needs to be punished until it understands you are the leader.
Train your puppy to ring bells when he needs to relieve himself. Initially, jingle a bell whenever the puppy is let out, and in time, the puppy will inform you of his need. Puppies are quite smart, so they will realize the connection before long and start ringing the bell themselves. Use praise to re-enforce good behavior in your puppy when training. Smile, offers treats and show excitement to relay to your puppy that he is doing something positive. Do not reward your puppy after bad behavior, it will get confused.

In order to train a well-mannered dog, you must be sure you practice training it on a regular basis. Sometimes, you will fail when training your puppy, which you should expect.
Consistency is the key to puppy crate training. As soon as the puppy is out of the crate, let them have an opportunity to go outside and relieve themselves. As time passes, your puppy will start to be able to use the restroom at the appropriate times. Ensure you get your puppy's attention using the same methods. Say your puppy's name, followed by the command. Using their name will help to personalize your command. Using your puppy's name lets him know you want his attention.

Do not try to train a good puppy with a leash that is too tight. This gives your puppy the sense that it should always be pulling.
Some puppies are so scared of thunderstorms that they are literally a danger to themselves. If you puppy is scared of thunderstorms, visit your vet. Your vet might be able to prescribe a sedative for your puppy to take during thunderstorms. This is usually a last-ditch effort that occurs when modifying behavior isn't enough to tackle the issue, but it can benefit the puppy's life if it's serious enough. Don't have unrealistic training expectations for aging or ill puppies. You cannot require an arthritic older puppy to crawl or do other stunts a younger puppy could do, for example. Training a puppy can keep his brain sharp. On the other hand, you need to make certain that exercise and training are not causing your older puppy pain.

Avoid accidents if you want to housebreak your dog. Watch your pet to identify his unique behaviors and signals that indicate when he must relieve himself.

Training your puppy to start rolling over is easy, but be sure to have some treats. The puppy has to lay down first. Next, hold the treat close to the floor near its head, and bring it up over the puppy's head as you place it on the other side. He should roll his body over while following the treat. While he rolls, say "roll over" and repeat this action until he is able to roll over with only the command. Do not let a lack of early success frustrate you. This takes repetition to nail down, but once you do, you will have the star puppy on the block. If your puppy is jumping on you, grab his paws with your hands and gently squeeze them to deter his behavior. It is uncomfortable but a non-painful experience for the puppy.

They will quickly learn to avoid doing it in order to avoid the sensation.

For puppys who bark unnecessarily, try not to shout at your pet. Shouting in response to barking can actually reinforce the barking, as the puppy may see you as taking part in the fun noise-making.
One thing you should remember when you are training your pet is that you should not give in to bad things your puppy does. If you do, he'll think he's the boss. For example, don't attempt to stop unwanted barking by giving your puppy a treat. Even if you have a particularly disobedient puppy, have no fear. Most puppies could be trained by knowing proper techniques and by having perseverance. Use the information here to make it easier to train your puppy and get maximum results.
