You love the puppy and your stuff, but your puppy doesn't
love your stuff. Sadly, the puppy is not likely to appreciate your things like
you do, and things that appear good for chewing are ripe for attack. This guide
will give you tips on how to keep your puppy from chewing the things that you
own.
When trying to improve your puppy's behavior, don't use a
tight leash when walking them. When you do this, the puppy naturally wants to
pull. Don't encourage this behavior. So always make sure that there is some
slack on the leash.
Even though it may not be easy, you should always be patient
with your puppy. Remember that your puppy doesn't speak your language or really
know what you're saying most of the time. Your puppy will not understand if you
fly off the handle. Stay calm, step back and take a breather when you become
frustrated.
It takes many repetitions before a puppy is able to learn
new commands. You might have to repeat the same exercise up to fifty times
before your puppy remembers it. Continue repeating the command patiently, and
eventually your puppy will understand it.
You can keep a puppy from barking by teaching it an order
that means they should be silent. Every time he barks, tell them the silent
order and then treat him. Then, you can reward it with a treat. Repetition will
ensure the puppies learns that quiet is a good thing.
One good training method is known as "shake-can".
Take an old can, throw some bolts or coins in it, and seal it up tight. Shake
the can whenever your puppy does something wrong. Your puppy will be startled
by the sound and will cease the behavior. After using this method several
times, your pet will begin to realize you find his behavior unacceptable. Just
shake the can one time.
A good thing to remember during training is the fact that your
every move will play a role in the puppy's eventual personality and
disposition. By keeping this in your mind, you will be able to avoid regression
in your training by avoiding horseplay and teasing. Take care to only reward
positive behavior.
Patience is definitely a virtue when training your pet. This
will cause you not to be frustrated and angry with your puppy during this
process. Don't forget that puppies aim to please, however they often don't
understand what you want.
If your puppy is allowed to go inside, make sure there is a
certain place designated for this purpose. Get some potty pads placed in that
area, and over time remove one after another until there is one left. This will
help train the puppy to go in that one specific locale.
Do not punish your puppy if they do not respond to you
initially. Understand that if your puppy isn't responding to your commands,
then it's likely your fault, not theirs. Instead, find another method of
training your puppy.
A great puppy training tip is to always use your puppy's
name in a positive manner. This will increase the chances that your puppy
exhibits good behavior. For this reason, you should always call your puppy by
name in a positive tone.
When training your puppy to fetch a ball, show him you are
the leader by making him bring the ball to you at all times. When you go to get
the item being fetched, your puppy will think he's the boss. Instructing the puppy
to bring the ball to you every time shows him that he must obey you as the
leader.
If you are crate training your puppy, you need to show them
that this is where they will sleep. Leave the crate door open and place food
inside of it when it's time to eat. The puppy will recognize the crate as
having delicious food.
Acclimate your puppy to the source that triggers his barking
fits. This can be things like sounds, smells, or proximity to other creatures.
Your puppy will eventually learn not to react in these situations.
Know your puppy's body language to know when they have gone
out. Each puppy has its own unique way of showing that it needs to relief
itself. Learning this pattern can help you take your puppy out immediately and
it shows them what proper behavior is. You will have an easier time of house
training if you understand the natural tendencies of your puppy.
When you are training your puppy, bad behavior needs to be
discouraged. You should say 'no' to your puppy in a tone that is firm. Do not
yell, and never ever hit the puppy. Make sure to discourage any bad behavior
while it is happening, or soon afterwards. Puppies have short attention spans.
If you take too long, he will not understand what it is you are trying to tell
him.
When it's all said and done, make sure you keep your puppy
from biting and chewing up all your stuff. This prevents them getting hurt and also
saves you irritation and money. These tips will be able to stop improper
chewing.
